2020 Legislative Day Sessions

KAIA is hosting the first gathering of the Women In Insurance Network (“WIN”) to bring the talented women of our industry together to provide an opportunity to engage, forge new relationships, and explore strategies that empower their growth and solve challenges within the insurance field.

In 2019, Kansas Farm Bureau rolled out Kansas Farm Bureau Health Plans after a change in a state statute with the goal of providing Kansans with an affordable healthcare option. During the process, KAIA worked with the Kansas Farm Bureau to make sure that the product would be distributed by licensed insurance agents and that independent agents would also have the option to offer this product to their customers if desired. This session will focus on what agents need to know to get started offering the Farm Bureau Health Plans and answer any questions.

The KAIA legislative team and Government Affairs Committee has worked closely with the Kansas Insurance Department on its legislative agenda. Issues included in our update are: • changing CE requirements, • new agent and agency renewal requirements, • the Hilburn case/tort reform, • changes in carrier policy change notifications, • and much more. The KID team will provide an update on its legislative initiatives, the rationale behind the proposed changes, and the practical impact on consumers and agents. Senator Rob Olson, Chair of the Senate Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee and Representative Gene Vickrey, Chair of the House Insurance Committee will provide a briefing of the various bills and activities of their committees.

Presenter: Jim Redeker, Vice President and Claims Manager at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions We will explore some of the largest E&O claims from across the country in a case study format, including the root cause of the error, the ultimate outcome, and things the agency could have done differently to prevent or mitigate the claim.

Attendees will hear welcoming comments from the House leaders on the floor, including House Majority Leader Dan Hawkins and Speaker Pro Tem Blaine Finch.

Agents will take the time to visit with their legislator(s) on important issues facing our industry.

Networking with your legislator(s) will continue at the nearby Cyrus Hotel. You and your legislator(s) are invited to continue the conversation over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Everyone is welcome to participate in a Poker Tournament with all proceeds benefiting InsurPac. Whether you are a poker novice or a seasoned veteran, a good time will be had by all spending time with your fellow members.
